littoral a & n 1 a. Of or on the shore. 2. n. Region lying along the shore. . . (OED)
For a black and white photography landscape subject I returned to the littoral in 2004. This time Broke Inlet in Western Australia. The Broke Inlet folio is perhaps a revisiting of the littoral zone, which started with my English Littoral work on the Somerset beaches thirty years ago
Broke Inlet, S 34 59' E 117 24', is inside D'Entrecasteaux National Park in Western Australia. Broke Inlet is the estuary of the Shannon River, the Inlet River and the Forth River. Broke Inlet breaches to the sea only in winter. The edge of Broke Inlet is sand with low outcrops of gneiss rock. There is strong evidence of severe loss of peat soils at the northern shore of Broke Inlet lost during a recent DEC/CALM "controlled burn" disaster
Broke Inlet is easily accessable by any car from Broke Inlet Road off the SW Highway to Camfield and by two 4WD tracks, one joining from Cheasapeake Road at the northeast and Fishermans Track from Mandalay Beach Road
