Southern Ocean Edge
Originally these images grew from the Australian Beaches, but the Southern Ocean is too big an entity to be depicted in the close and personal way I have worked with the littoral in the Australian Beaches
The black and white photographs of the Southern Ocean off Western Australia, came almost by chance after I was asked for “serene meditative images of ocean”. However, try as I might, the Southern Ocean is not going to be told how to look. She is far too big and powerful to be circumscribed in this way
The Southern Ocean is the only ocean that flows around the World without having lumps of land slooshing it around in captivity
However, I am still workng from the coast, so there is a littoral element to these pictures and some images will be applicable to either portfolio, it will be mearly a shift of emphasis, which means the last of the Australian Beaches will be transferred to this page. Perhaps in the end the pages will merge, but that will depend on the images the Southern Ocean work produces
These images need to be printed large. At first I will be printing to 16x20 and 20x24 inches, but later will be making them available at 36x45 inches, and up to 40 x 50 inches from 10x8 inch negatives
