The Armpit 1988 - Picture Story

The subject of this, one of my most loved portraits, was modelling belt buckles for a catalogue. Between a belt buckle change she grabbed her armpit hair and said "What do you think of these?"
Robyn, Fremantle 1988
I thought the image was great, but as we were in the middle of a job with the client there I was not in a position to change lights and camera and make this picture. The next time I met her I suggested the image, but she had changed boyfriends to one do did not like armpit hair. It then took about three years for her to separate and get a sensible one who appreciates natural women. Then another six months for the hair to regrow. Then the picture.
Camera Rolleiflex Tele with fixed 135mm Zeiss Sonnar, tungsten lighting, Ilford FP4 film developed in replenished D76d. Image printed on some of my last Agfa Record Rapid graded paper, developed in Dr Beers two bath developer.
